Raftery, prominent in area soccer as well as baseball, was a switch-hitter who played for the Donnelly Stars, St. Louis and state champions in 1918. He sponsored and coached baseball and soccer teams and also served as a part-time scout for 11 years for the Boston Braves and Cleveland Indians.
