Patrick was a right-handed pitcher for Arkansas State University in 1973. A year later, he was a member of Ric Lessman’s Meramec Community College team that won the JUCO National Championship. In 1975 and 1976, Beilsmith was a standout hurler for the University of New Mexico. He pitched in the Cape Cod League during the summer of 1975.

Beilsmith was an American Legion baseball coach for 10 years, and a high school baseball coach for three seasons. In 2009, Patrick was inducted into the St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame.
