Carr was a switch-hitting shortstop who captained six teams in 12 years of amateur ball before suffering in 1939 a career ending eye injury when playing pro ball for the Cardinals at Gastonia, N.C.

Carr played on 10 championship teams, including John (Hi) Simmons's first two at the University of Missouri, 1937-38. In 1933 he played with the Columbia Athletic Club, which beat Terry Moore and the Omahas for the St. Louis Municipal League title and then beat the same local foe in the finals of the national public parks' tournament held here.
