Chard was the head baseball coach at Hancock High School from 1968 to 1971, and head baseball coach at Mehlville High School from 1972 to 1985. During that time, his teams won five district championships and three sectional titles. He guided the Mehlville Panthers to the Missouri State Tournament three years in a row from 1982 to 1984. Three Post-Dispatch Players of the Year were on Chard’s Mehlville team.
Chard was the Athletic Director of the Lemay Baseball Association from 1968 to 1985. He was in charge of Heine Meine Field. He also served as a coach and manager in the Heine Meine Semi-Pro League. From 1958 to 1966, he was manager of the Century Sporting Goods team. From 1960 to 1966, he was a coach for VFW Post 6137. From 1968 to 1978, he managed the Southside Baseball Club in the Heine Meine Semi-Pro League. He was both a coach and a manager for the Johnny Mac Baseball Club from 1982 to 1991.
Chard is a past president of the Missouri High School Baseball Coaches Association. He was director of the Missouri State Tournament five times when it was played at Heine Meine Field.
He was an outfielder for Bayless High School from 1957 to 1959. Chard became an Assistant Principal at Mehlville High School in 1985.
From 1990 to 2000, he was the head principal at Oakville High School.
