Ron was a powerful righthanded outfielder and pitcher who signed with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1973. That year, he played for the Gulf Coast League Red Birds in Sarasota, Florida. In the 1960s, Rohlfing starred for Valmeyer High School, where he was named All-Conference and All-Area. In 2022, he was inducted into the Valmeyer High School Hall of Fame. He played collegiate ball for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville and in 1972 was a member of the team that finished third at the College World Series. In 2006, that team was inducted into the SIU-E Sports Hall of Fame. During his career with the Cougars, Rohlfing had a .309 batting average, 16 home runs, a 6-1 pitching record and a 1.88 ERA. Rohlfing was a dominant pitcher and hitter in the Mon-Clair League for 20 years. He played for the Valmeyer Lakers for 17 seasons, helping his team to two league championships. From 1985 to 1987, he was an outfielder and pitcher for the Sauget Wizards in the Mon-Clair League. A perennial league all-star, Rohlfing was inducted into the Mon-Clair League Baseball Hall of Fame. He was a longtime supporter of Valmeyer Lakers baseball, including coaching, improving facilities and player outreach. He died on September 16, 2020 at the age of 69.
