A great hitting outfielder, Giegling played three years at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where his team won the conference championship in 1984 and 1985. In ’85, he was All-Conference and earned honorable mention as an Academic All-American. After graduating from St. Mary’s High School, Giegling earned a scholarship to Crowder College in Neosho, Missouri, where he played three seasons between 1981 and 1983. He helped Crowder reach the final round of the Missouri JUCO Tournament. In 1993, he was named to the school’s Hall of Fame. Giegling received the James Payne Scholar Athlete Award in 1983. Two years prior, he was an all-star outfielder and MVP for the Johnny Mac Fenton American Legion team that won the state championship. He was selected to play in the Missouri-Illinois American Legion all-star game. In 1981, Giegling played on Team Midwest at the U.S. Olympic Sports Festival in Syracuse, New York. His amateur career featured stints with the Schnucks Royals and Centerre Bank Browns in 1984 and 1985. The latter year the Browns won the Metro Collegiate League championship. The year before, they finished second with Giegling earning a berth on the all-star team that played the U.S. Olympic Team at Busch Stadium. He also played outfield for the 1988 Mon-Clair League champion Sauget Wizards. He has been baseball coach in the St. Louis area for many years.
