“Web” Johnson did it all in his over 30 years in baseball. He played virtually every position, coached, managed, and was President of the night ballpark at Old Monroe, Missouri. He began in the American Legion program, playing for St. Louis Post. He then pitched and played the outfield at Soldan High School. After high school, Johnson joined Hires Root Beer in the Trolley League. Some of the power clubs Johnson played for included Koob Bakery, Polish Falcons, East St. Louis Blue Jays, Carter Carburetor, Keller Drug, Borbein Young, Moloney Electric, and Old Monroe of the East Missouri Hard Road League. A left-handed hitter, “Web” rarely struck out and always hit for average, peaking at .463 one season.
