Tom Swoboda
Hall of Fame Umpire Class of 2024

He has been a member of the Greater St. Louis Association of Umpires for 31 years, beginning in 1993. During that time, he has worked high school, college, SLABA, and American Legion games in the St. Louis area. He has also been a member of the Frontier League’s umpiring staff for the past 24 years.

Swoboda has umpired numerous post season and championship games. He has been an umpire in the Missouri Valley Conference, the Ohio Valley Conference, the American Association, and the Alaska Baseball League. He worked the NCAA regional tournament for several years.

Since 2017, Swoboda has been the Assistant Assigner for Umpires in the St. Louis area. He assigns and schedules umpires for high school, American Legion, and SLABA games.

In 2020, he was honored by the Missouri State High School Activities Association for his work in the St. Louis Region.

Swoboda graduated from the Harry Wendelstedt Umpire School in 1996. That year, he received the Ray Perez Most Promising Umpire Award from the Greater St. Louis Association of Umpires. Swoboda enjoys teaching newcomers the fundamentals of umpiring.

He played baseball in Washington, Missouri for St. Francis Borgia High School, American Legion Post 218, and East Central College.

Swoboda is an active member of Legion Post 218 where he is a guest speaker at baseball events.
