Tim Funkhouser
Hall of Fame Manager/Coach Class of 2019
Tim recently completed his 26th season as head baseball coach at Edwardsville High School and this fall, he will be inducted into the National High School Baseball Coaches Association Hall of Fame.
A true coaching legend, Funkhouser took over for another legendary coach, Tom Pile, who retired in 1999. Since then, Funkhouser’s Edwardsville High Tigers have posted a 797-197 record, including three Illinois state titles, 12 Southwestern Conference championships, 18 regional championships and 12 sectional titles.
Before he became head baseball coach, Tim was a standout shortstop at Edwardsville, helping the Tigers win the 1990 state championship. He went on to become head baseball coach at Triad High School for three years.
In 2016, he became the youngest high school baseball coach in Illinois history to win 600 games. During his tenure, Funkhouser has won a host of coaching awards.
In 1990, Funkhouser as a shortstop for Edwardsville Post 199, helping his team finish second at the Illinois American Legion State tournament. He played shortstop for Western Illinois University from 1991 to 1994. He as captain of his team during his junior and senior years. He also played three years for the Fairview Heights Mets in the Central Illinois Collegiate League.
