A right-handed center fielder, Tusinski played for the University of Missouri at St. Louis from 1969-73, and was voted best defensive center fielder in 1972 and 1973. His UMSL team reached the Final Four both years. In 1973, he was the Most Valuable Player of the Regional Finals. Tusinski had the best fielding record for any center fielder in UMSL history and had a .292 composite batting average during his four years at UMSL.

He played at DeAndreis High School in the late 1960s.

From 1969-74, he was a center fielder for Giesler-Jorgen in the St. Louis County League.

Tusinski was the junior varsity baseball coach at Ritenour High School for one year. He then began his 26-year coaching career at Bayless High School. He was varsity baseball coach for 12 years, winning one district title. He also coached Bayless JV baseball for 11 years. He was the varsity basketball coach for eight years, winning two district titles. He was also a high school referee for 23 years.
