Norm was the head baseball coach at St. Dominic’s High School for 25 years, winning nine consecutive district titles and six sectional championships. St. Dominic’s made the Final Four twice, losing the 1988 title game to Jefferson City Helias High School – which was undefeated over two years with a 47-0 record.
Ochsner never had a losing season. He coached at St. Dominic’s for over 30 years. Prior to 1962, St. Dominic’s was named Assumption High School. Ochsner coached baseball at Assumption from 1957 until 1960, winning two district titles and two sectional championships. In 1960, he left Assumption to take a coaching job at the new Fort Zumwalt High School.
He returned to St. Dominic’s in 1967, where he remained until his retirement in 1998. The school named the baseball field after him when he retired.
The St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame recognized him for providing exceptional service to the sports programs of St. Dominic’s and Fort Zumwalt. The Missouri Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Association presented Ochsner with their Distinguished Service Award.
Ochsner grew up in Hermann, Missouri, where he played high school and American Legion baseball in the early 1950s. He also played for several other local teams. He attended Quincy College, where he was on the baseball team in 1956 and 1957.
