A left-handed pitcher, Trapasso played three seasons in the minor leagues before becoming a college baseball coach. Mike was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1983. That same year, he was also drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays. The following year, he was drafted by the Minnesota Twins and in 1985, he was drafted by the Atlanta Braves and played two years in their farm system. In 1987, he played in the St. Louis Cardinals’ farm system.
He pitched for Mehlville High School from 1978-81, followed by two seasons with Jefferson College. He played for Team USA in 1983 and was nominated for the Golden Spikes Award. Trapasso went on to pitch for Oklahoma State University, where he pitched in the College World Series, had the best earned run average in Big Eight Conference, and was ranked in the Top 5 nationally in 1984. Trapasso was named to the All-Tournament team in 1984 and 1985. Mike coached the University of Missouri Tigers and the University of South Florida, among others. He has been the head baseball coach at the University of Hawaii since 2002. In 2006, he was named National Coach of the Year, and Conference Coach of the Year in 2004, 2006 and 2011. Trapasso coached Team USA in 2004. He’s conducted baseball clinics in Japan, Taiwan, Australia and the United States.
