An outstanding left-handed pitcher, Schuermann was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1991, and he played five years in their farm system. He pitched in the farm system of the Baltimore Orioles for one season. In 1991, Schuermann joined the Butte Copper Kings, the Rangers farm club in the Pioneer League. He pitched in the Florida State League for the Fort Myers Miracle in 1992 and the Port Charlotte Rangers in 1993. Schuermann was an all-star pitcher for the Tulsa Drillers in 1994. He was named Texas League Pitcher of the Week four times. He advanced to the Triple A level in 1995 with the Oklahoma City 89ers in the American Association. In 1996, he joined the Bowie Baysox, a farm team of the Baltimore Orioles in the Eastern League. That year, he wrapped up his minor league career with the Abilene Prairie Dogs in the Texas-Louisiana League. His team won the league championship.

Schuermann was pitching for the University of Nevada at Las Vegas when he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in 1991. The head coach at UNLV was Fred Dallimore, one of the winningest coaches in college baseball history.

From 1988 to 1990, Schuermann pitched for Meramec Community College and played summer baseball in the St. Louis Metro Collegiate League. He was on Neil Fiala’s St. Louis Yankees and also Dan Rudanovich’s strong Educational Employees Credit Union team. Schuermann played for the Oakville High School baseball team from 1985 to 1988. He was a baseball coach at Meramec Community College for three years and Harris-Stowe State College for two years.

In 2011, Schuermann founded the St. Louis Naturals Baseball Club. The Naturals Baseball Club provides a premier environment for both youth and high school athletes.
