The head baseball coach at St. Mary’s High School from 2000 to 2005, Joe was their assistant coach in 1976. Years earlier, Joe was a student and player on the school’s baseball team from 1964-67.

Wessels served as the assistant baseball coach at Cleveland High School in 1975, and St. Louis University High School in 1977. Joe managed the St. Louis Stars in 1976, and the Economy American Legion Team in 1977 and 1978. From 1999 to 2003, Wessels managed the Southwest Kiwanis Pros team and is still an active baseball instructor.
