A dominant right-handed pitcher, Turner played in the Major Leagues from 2011 to 2018. A top prospect, he was chosen by the Detroit Tigers in the first round of the 2009 Major League draft. He made his Major League debut on July 30, 2011 for the Tigers. He pitched for the Miami Marlins from 2012 to 2014. He was on the Chicago Cubs in 2014 and the Chicago White Sox in 2016. He pitched for the Washington Nationals in 2017. In 2018, Turner pitched once again for the Miami Marlins and the Detroit Tigers. In 2019, he played for the Kia Tigers in South Korea.
Turner grew up in St. Charles and played for Westminster Christian Academy. When he was a senior in high school, he was reaching a speed of 98 miles per hour with his fast ball. His record was 20-4 at Westminster.
Todd Worrell and Mike Matheny were two of his instructors at Westminster. Before the 2009 MLB Draft, Turner had committed to pitch for the University of North Carolina.
