An overpowering right-handed pitcher, Reiter was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the second round of the 1976 Major League Baseball Draft, and by the Chicago Cubs in the second round of the Supplemental Draft. He signed with the Cubs and played two years in their farm system. In 1976, he pitched for the Cubs’ farm team in the Gulf Coast League. He posted a 6-2 record with four complete games and two shutouts, and had a 2.75 earned run average while earning a berth on the all-star team. That same year, he played Winter Ball with the Cubs in Arizona. In 1977, Reiter pitched for a Cubs farm team in the New York – Pennsylvania League.
In 1976, Reiter was a pitcher for Meramec Community College when he signed with the Cubs. Meramec lost only one game that year, and was ranked among the best Junior College teams in America. In 1975, Reiter pitched for Benedictine University. That same year, he also played for the Springfield Caps. He was named to the league all-star team. From 1978-80, Reiter was a relief pitcher for the St. Louis Union Printers. Reiter has coached little league and American Legion baseball teams for over 20 years.
