George P. Frank

George P. Frank
Hall of Fame Player Class of 1985

An excellent second baseman and one of the better right-handed hitters to play amateur baseball, Frank was also an excellent softball player. Some of the top Clubs that he played for include the Gebkens, Thau-Nolde and Union Electric. In 1938, George hit .424 for the Gebkens and was selected on the South All-Star Team. He repeated his star selection when he hit .446 for Thau-Nolde in 1939, including a six-for-six day. Frank played and organized a baseball club during World War II. Because of the morale factor, he was promoted to Tech Sergeant, his outfit loading and unloading more bombs and machine gun ammunition in a 24-hour period than any other outfit.

An enterprising George Frank tried to favor kids when he sold baseball gloves at a discount after the war. Frank is also an entertainer and singer, and has performed at many baseball banquets and meetings.
