Marty was a left-handed pitcher who was drafted right out of Lindbergh High School by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1973 and again in 1976. Kunkler played in the Dodgers’ farm system from 1976-79.
He pitched for the Southwest Kiwanis Pros from 1970 until 1972 and hurled four no-hitters during that span. In 1994, he entered the Southwest Kiwanis Hall of Fame and was named to the All-Time Team. In 1973, Kunkler was named Amateur Baseball Athlete of the Year by the St. Louis Globe-Democrat. The St. Louis Elks also awarded Marty with the same honor.
