A lefthanded hitting first baseman played 10 years for the Mathews-Dickey Knights, Goodwin helped that team win the 1973 state semipro tournament. He hit two home runs during that drive and then went on to participate in the National Baseball Congress tournament in Wichita, Kansas.

He was an integral part of two Heine Meine League championship teams, four other teams in the Cool Papa Bell League and five more in the Tandy League. Garland went on to coach baseball at Vashon High School and later became principal at Sumner High School.

Garland Goodwin passed away on July 11, 2016.
