An outstanding outfielder, who sometimes caught, Robben played for 26 years in the Muny Leagues. Batting and throwing from the right side, Jim was a complete ball player – defensively and offensively. He was among the Industrial League leaders in hitting for many years while playing for Maloney Electric. In 1956 at age 41, he was runner-up for the batting title. Robben has always been interested in helping youngsters and was a member of the famed Jack Bieber Baseball School’s coaching staff from 1942 to 1944. He also coached at St. Agatha from 1954 until 1960. While helping other young players, Jim was also able to help develop his sons Dave, Bob and Mickey. Two were members of the 1962 American League National Champions and one went on to become an All-American at the University of Missouri.
