Gene McAuliffe’s name Is synonymous with the very best in amateur baseball. He is one of a few who played on two National Amateur Baseball Championship teams - CAC and American Package Company (Sunrise). This fine left-handed hitter was selected to four consecutive North Side All-Star Teams (1936-37-38-39). His lifetime batting average was over .350.

McAuliffe was also a fine defensive outfielder, playing either left or center field. Gene played for some powerful clubs in the seeded leagues, including Viz, Hoffmeister’s, Honey Dews, Stroot Carroll, CAC, St. Louis Police Department, Burke Democrats, Kroemeke’s, and Lindell Trust. He also played semi pro ball with Puritan Malt and National Sporting Goods, as well as the Rock Island Club in the Mississippi Valley League. Gene served as President of the Craig Club and coached their Senior team.
