Eugene was a switch-hitting outfielder who played minor league baseball from 1961 to 1964. He spent two years in the Pittsburgh Pirates’ farm system, then moved on to play in the New York Mets’ minor league organization. He ended with the Salinas Mets in the California League.
From 1953 to 1956, Orf played for Portage Des Sioux in the St. Charles County Hardroad League. In 1967 and 1968, Orf was an outfielder for the St. Charles Moose team. In 1990, he was inducted into the St. Charles County Amateur Sports Hall of Fame.
