Edward M. Metzger

Edward M. Metzger
Hall of Fame Player Class of 1985

Ed Metzger began his career as a first baseman, because of his size, and he threw left-handed. After four years at first base, he switched to the outfield and starred for some of the area’s outstanding Muny League teams, including G Lamp, S Builders, Parks Norge, Bert Hannums and Borbein-Young, as well as five years of service ball for major leaguer Roy Weatherly.

Metzger was considered one of the finest left-handed hitters to play Muny ball and he led the strong South Side League in hitting in 1935 while performing for the Parks Norge team at Carondelet Park. His Bert Hannum club won the District championship in 1938.

Ed coached kid baseball for CSMAC and was also their athletic director. He also did some scouting for the Baltimore Orioles.
