Holder was a catcher and first baseman for the Sotolar Pointers from 1981-91. During that time, he was on six NBC state championship teams. He was the starting catcher on the ’87 Pointers team that finished seventh at the NBC World Series in Wichita, was named to the All-Tournament Team and hit a team-record 20 home runs for the Pointers. He was a catcher and first baseman for Fox High School from 1975-78, when his team reached the Final Four of the Missouri State Tournament.

He was a catcher and first baseman for the St. Louis Cubs in the Metro Collegiate League. In the early 1980s, he played for the University of Missouri at Columbia. Holder is still active as a player. He is a four-time all-star in the St. Louis Men’s Senior League, and has played on three league championship teams. Holder works with young players as a catching and hitting instructor. He was a baseball scout for the Chicago White Sox for three years.
