A right-handed hitting third baseman, Kramer began his career as a 15 year old in the Munys at Forest Park. Prior to his becoming a star in the County League, Kramer played varsity baseball for Ritenour High School in 1946 and 1947. A 20 year man in amateur baseball circles, mostly representing Maryland Heights and Vigus, Carl was chosen for the St. Louis County All-Star Team seven times. He is also remembered as the first player to hit two home runs in one game at Washington, Missouri, after the park was enclosed.
